Screen Wars!

There’s an ongoing battle in our household over screens. By screens I mean television, video games, computers and iPads, basically any electronic device that has a screen. The Canadian Pediatric Society recommends that time in front of the television or computer should be limited to no more than two hours a day[i]. Research shows that more time than this is correlated with poor social skills, learning problems, short attention spans, obesity and sleep problems[ii]. Our children’s brains are developing and what they are exposed to has an impact on how their brains develop. It’s pretty clear that some of the

The Lies We Tell Ourselves

We are storytellers, we humans. It is one of the things that truly set us apart from the other mammals on this planet. We love to tell stories and we love to hear stories. Some of our stories endure for thousands of years, while others are as fleeting as the wind. Stories are so intricately woven into our lives that we often don’t even recognize them. We call some stories ‘news’, some history, some gossip, sometimes we even call them facts. These are the stories of our culture. We also have our own personal stories. Some we repeat to others,

Self Love or Self Indulgence?

I have been thinking about the difference between self love and self indulgence for the past few weeks. I think self love is a vital ingredient to experience true joy, compassion and love for others. Understood in this way, this Commandment comes to

Meditating is boring!

It’s been two weeks since I have written anything. It’s been two weeks since I have meditated or done qi gong also. These are the practices I have chosen in an attempt to connect deeply to that part of myself that is God. To live more often in a state of joyfulness. To embrace living in a deep way. I began this journey about six months ago and I have to tell you I have struggled. My goal is to write for thirty minutes, meditate and practice qi gong every day. Most days I have failed to do all three

Lotus Mothering

As I write this entry I am in the midst of an 100 day Radiant Lotus Women’s Qi Gong home practice. Today is day 14. It has been an incredible experiment! I have been asked to implement the teachings, physical practice, meditation and sounding into my daily routine, and also to notice any changes taking place in my mind/body/emotions.There are three key concepts my teacher Daisy Lee has passed on that I am now working with, which are; Vertical alignment, Neutral compassion, and Lead energy.
